Australian Telecommunications Alliance Appoints Greg Spears as Head of Communications and Media
Australian Telecommunications Alliance (ATA) has appointed Greg Spears as Head of Communications and Media, reporting to ATA CEO Luke Coleman.
Spears commenced in the new role on 1 July 2026 and brings more than 20 years of telecommunications experience to the role with expertise in regulatory issues management, financial and operational reporting, trade, business and consumer media relations and crisis management.
ATA is the peak body for the Australian telecommunications industry, representing a broad range of members and working with government, regulators, consumer groups and other stakeholders to develop industry codes, technical standards and industry policy positions.
Spears is well equipped for the new role after leading the corporate media team at NBN Co for more than seven years. He has also served as a General Manager Media at Telstra and spent around eight years as Head of Communications at Vodafone Australia. Earlier in his career, he provided strategic communications counsel to BT (Openworld) during its roll out of high-speed broadband services across the UK.
ATA CEO, Luke Coleman, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Greg to the ATA team. He has a deep understanding of the Australian and international telecommunications landscape.
“He was instrumental in leading nbn’s communications and media engagement approach during its deep and detailed consultation with industry, the regulator and consumer advocacy groups on the Special Access Undertaking (SAU) Variation and Replacement Module Application (RMA). He has also been at the forefront of strategic communications relating to the company’s national fibre and fixed wireless upgrades and nascent partnership to deliver nbn satellite services powered by Amazon Leo.
“Over the years, he has worked directly with many of the communications leads and executive leadership teams of our members. He understands the key commercial drivers, regulatory and customer service issues, so is ideally credentialled to advocate on behalf of our industry and customers.”
Greg Spears will work closely with Luke Coleman and his senior leadership team, ATA members and external stakeholders to deliver effective media engagement, executive communications, campaigns and issues management activities across a broad range of telecommunications, regulatory and industry matters.
