Support for privacy protection

Australian Telecommunications Alliance recognises the importance of privacy protection and supports the National Privacy Principles set out in Schedule 3 of the Privacy Act 1988.

What personal information does the Australian Telecommunications Alliance collect

Australian Telecommunications Alliance collects names, organisations and contact details for all members of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance Reference Panels, Working Committees and Working Groups. Australian Telecommunications Alliance may also collect other information regarding any particular requirements an individual may have which relate to the Australian Telecommunications Alliance activities (such as any special dietary or accommodation requirements an individual may have to attend and participate in the Australian Telecommunications Alliance meetings or functions).

Australian Telecommunications Alliance also collects personal information relating to personnel of Carriage Service Providers and Content Service Providers (Suppliers) pursuant to the Mobile Premium Service Code (C637:2009) (MPS Code) for the purpose of establishing and maintaining the Mobile Premium Services Register (Register) and Short Code Look-up Database (Database). This information may include names, contact details, and details of the position and role of individuals, and may be collected from the individual directly or from a third party pursuant to the MPS Code.

How Australian Telecommunications Alliance will use the personal information it collects

Australian Telecommunications Alliance uses an individual’s personal information:

  • inform the person of meetings of their Reference Panel(s) and/or Working Committee(s)/Groups(s);
  • provide relevant meeting documentation;
  • inform the person of upcoming Australian Telecommunications Alliance events;
  • provide general information about Australian Telecommunications Alliance; and
  • make arrangements for individuals to attend the Australian Telecommunications Alliance meetings and functions, including arranging travel, accommodation, food and any other requirements an individual may have in relation to participating in the meetings and/or functions.

Australian Telecommunications Alliance uses personal information of personnel of Suppliers contained in the Register and Database for the purposes of developing and maintaining the Register and Database in accordance with the MPS Code.

Australian Telecommunications Alliance may share your personal information with companies that perform services that help process credit card payments. Our service providers are required by contract to protect the confidentiality of the personal information we share with them and to use it only to provide specific services on our behalf.

When the Australian Telecommunications Alliance will disclose your personal information

Australian Telecommunications Alliance provides the name and contact details of members of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance Reference Panels, Working Committees and Working Groups only to other members of the Reference Panel(s) and/or Working Committee(s)/Group(s) of which the individual is a member or, where relevant, to members of other Reference Panels and/or Working Committees/Groups. The Australian Telecommunications Alliance website (www.austelco.org.au) also includes the name and organisation of all members of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance Reference Panels and Working Committees/Groups, but does not contain contact details or any other personal information.

Australian Telecommunications Alliance discloses the information contained in the Register and Database, including names, contact details, and details of the position and role of personnel of Suppliers, to:

  • regulators, such as the Australian Communications and Media Authority and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission;
  • personnel of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance for the purpose of establishing and maintaining the Register and Database; and
  • as otherwise required by the MPS Code or by law.

In respect of the Register, the Australian Telecommunications Alliance also discloses names and contact details of personnel of Suppliers contained in the Register to other Suppliers who are listed on the Register.

In respect of the Database, the Australian Telecommunications Alliance also discloses the names and contact details of personnel of Suppliers contained in the Database to the public via the www.19sms.com.au website.

From time to time, the Australian Telecommunications Alliance may also disclose personal information it holds, including in the Register and Database:

  • to service providers, such as [IT service providers, website hosts and electronic database managers, and off-site security storage providers] who assist us;
  • to another party if some or all of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance’s responsibilities or operations are or may be transferred to that party; or
  • as otherwise permitted or required by law.

Cookies

All information from cookies is strictly confidential and is used solely for managing the website and what email notices a person receives from it. The site uses temporary cookies to manage this process while the person is logged onto the site.

Security

If you are provided with a user name and password to enable you to enter information into the Register, Database or elsewhere on this website, you are responsible for ensuring the confidentiality and security of that information. Please notify us immediately if you believe there has or may be unauthorised use of that information.

How to access your personal information

Australian Telecommunications Alliance will, on request, provide you with access to any information that we have collected about you except in the limited circumstances in which we are permitted to withhold access. If at any time you wish to change personal information held by the Australian Telecommunications Alliance that is inaccurate, incomplete or out-of-date, please contact the Privacy Officer. If you wish to have your personal information deleted, we will take reasonable steps to delete it unless we need to keep it for legal reasons.
