Telco industry CEOs join ATA Board of Directors
The CEOs of the ten largest telcos and technology providers met for the first time today as the new Board of the Australian Telecommunications Alliance (ATA), the peak body of the Australian telecommunications industry.
“This marks a significant moment for the industry, as the sector’s leaders join forces with a shared ambition to lift standards, to rebuild trust, and to restore reputation,” said ATA CEO Luke Coleman. “This new leadership is pivotal to rebuilding confidence in the critical services telcos provide, and which virtually every Australian relies on every day.”
The ATA’s Board is Chaired by Deena Shiff, and Directors include Vicki Brady (Telstra), Stephen Rue (Optus), Iñaki Berroeta (TPG Telecom), Ellie Sweeney (nbn), Andrés Irlando (Vocus), Brian Maher (Aussie Broadband), Paul Tyler (Superloop), Luke Clifton (Macquarie Technology Group – Telecom), Ludvig Landgren (Ericsson), and Andrew Cope (Nokia).
“The Board has a shared sense of the challenges faced by the sector, including the need to deliver for consumers and be more responsive to community expectations. There is also a shared understanding that telco services are critical to every aspect of Australian society. Australia’s economic growth, productivity, and public safety all depend on the critical infrastructure provided by a thriving, competitive and dynamic telecommunications industry,” Mr Coleman said.
“Australia, and Australians, all ultimately benefit from a strong and united telecoms sector – and we have a duty to rebuild trust and confidence in the services this sector provides.”
The Board meeting occurred on the same day that the Australian Bureau of Statistics released the latest CPI data, which showed the communications sector is, once again, delivering the lowest CPI growth of all sectors across the economy.
“Communications remains the one and only sector in the entire economy delivering more services at lower prices, indexed over the past decade,” said Mr Coleman.
