Who we are
The Australian Telecommunications Alliance (ATA) is the peak body of the Australian telecommunications industry.
We are the trusted voice at the intersection of industry, government, regulators, and consumers. Through collaboration and leadership, we shape initiatives that grow the Australian telecommunications industry, enhance connectivity for all Australians, and foster the highest standards of business behaviour.
We represent the full spectrum of the telecommunications sector: major mobile and fixed-line network operators, small and medium carriage service providers, digital infrastructure operators, device and equipment vendors, and ICT service providers.

Our Purpose
To lead a growing and sustainable telecommunications industry that benefits all Australians by delivering for consumers, promoting competition, and rewarding investment.
The ATA is recognised under Part 6 of the Telecommunications Act 1997 as the body responsible for the development of industry codes.
The ATA is also recognised under Part 21 of the Telecommunications Act 1997 as an approved Standards Development Organisation (SDO) accredited by Standards Australia to make technical standards.
These codes and technical standards are registered with, and enforced by, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
We are responsible for close to 130 industry codes, technical standards, guidelines and technical specifications.
Our Agenda
1. Delivering for consumers
Telecommunications is the one and only sector in the Australian economy that has seen prices decrease – and service levels increase – over the past decade. The ATA leads the development of codes that ensure telcos deliver for consumers, with requirements that go above and beyond the Australian Consumer Law, as well as leading on industry initiatives to protect Australians from scams.
2. Secure and resilient critical infrastructure
Implementing technical codes and standards to ensure that telecommunications services remain secure and resilient against outages, natural disasters, and cyber attacks; as well as leading industry engagement with government departments, agencies, and the energy sector to keep telecoms networks online.
3. A sustainable investment environment
Campaigning for the long-term growth of Australia’s telecommunications sector, where Australians continue to benefit from a vibrant competitive market and a sustainable investment environment.
